How a classic car is valued

The value of a classic car doesn't depend only on make, model and year. Two cars of the same model can differ by tens of thousands of euros. The factors that matter most are:

  • Model, version and year of manufacture. This is the baseline: limited series and the most sought-after versions are worth more.
  • Overall condition. From "needs restoration" to "concours", the price can more than double.
  • Originality and matching numbers. Original engine and chassis, and preserved paint or interior, increase the value.
  • Restoration. A properly executed, documented restoration is a plus; a budget job much less so.
  • Mileage. Low certified mileage commands a premium, especially on cars that have been little used.
  • Documents and certifications. Service history, invoices, logbooks and an ASI or FIVA certificate reassure buyers.

Where the prices in our estimate come from

We compare your car with similar cars (same make and model, close production years). We use three sources: listings published on AutoEpoque, listings on other European classic car portals, and selling prices from completed auctions. Listings show the asking price, so we reduce it by 7% on average to get closer to the selling price; completed auctions are actual prices. We then adjust the result for the condition, mileage, originality and documents you enter. The page always shows how many references were used and a confidence score.

Frequently asked questions about classic car valuation

How much is my classic car worth?+

Enter the make, model, year, mileage, condition and documents: the tool returns a likely price range and a confidence score, calculated from the prices of similar cars. The exact value of an individual car is established through an appraisal.

Is the valuation free?+

Yes. The online estimate is free. To see the full result we ask for your email address.

How accurate is the estimate?+

It depends on how many references we find: with many similar cars (for example a Porsche 911 or a Jaguar E-Type) confidence is high and the range is narrow; for rare models data is scarce, confidence is low and the range is wider. We always show you how many references we used.

Where do the prices come from?+

From classic car listings for sale across Europe, including those on AutoEpoque, and from completed auctions with an actual selling price.

Does an ASI or FIVA certificate increase the value?+

Generally yes: a certificate of historic relevance and a documented history make the car easier to sell and more reassuring for buyers. In the estimate we apply a small increase for each.

What is the difference between an online valuation and an appraisal?+

The online valuation compares your car with the market and is an indicative estimate. An appraisal is an in-person inspection by an expert that takes into account the actual condition of the car, and it is what you need for insurance, inheritance or major sales.

Can I sell my car on AutoEpoque?+

Yes. After the valuation you can publish your listing on AutoEpoque, the European classic car marketplace.
